About Me
My love for storytelling began when I was young. I’d stay up past my bedtime and sneak onto my Dad’s Xbox 360 to launch myself into vibrant, incomprehensible worlds that seemed just as mystical and mysterious as Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. I truly couldn’t understand how worlds so massive, so sprawling, so alive could be contained behind pixels in a screen. It was magic, real magic, and I’ve worked to capture that feeling ever since.
I began writing whenever I could – in my school breaks, at lunchtime, on the bus on the way to school. I entered poems and short stories into a few local competitions and won, getting my work published in two short collections of student work. But I wanted to write something more complex and interesting, so my Dad taught me how to use Scratch and program a Raspberry Pi, and I started to program interactive text games in python and Inky. This was fun, for a while, but there was something missing. An audience.
It was then that I stumbled across Minecraft Frontiers; a modded minecraft server set in an Ancient Rome inspired fantasy world overflowing with rich and vibrant lore. I immediately contacted the creator of the project, sent him some of my stories, and joined the team as a lore writer. There, I began crafting story arcs, event scripts, comprehensive documentation, worldbuilding, questlines… and it was the most fun I had ever had. Best of all, people were actually reading my work — over 1600 players to be precise. I dove in headfirst and, after 8 months, was promoted to Director of Lore, leading a small team of writers to continue developing the IP. It was my first taste of what it would be like to work as narrative designer, and that taste was utterly addicting.
Since then, I’ve worked for a number of games studios across AAA, AA and indie, including joining Rare, the XBOX studio, as a Game Store Author. There, I had the privilege of working on Sea of Thieves, the BAFTA-winning AAA live-service action adventure game, and (in my opinion) the best pirate game of all time. I’m eager to work on new, interesting projects and am incredibly excited for what the future holds.
